Bespoke Joinery Edinburgh

Details, made to fit your room.

A bookcase that fits the alcove, a desk with room for your equipment, or storage in an awkward corner. Made-to-measure joinery starts with the room you have and the job you need the furniture to do. We measure, make it in our workshop and fit it, with the materials, hardware and finish included in your written quote.

Tell us about your joinery

Tell us your general area and the space and what you need the joinery to do. Plans, measurements and a settled budget can follow. Send your enquiry by form or email. We will reply and arrange a follow-up call to talk through the project.

A general area is enough. Please do not enter your full address yet.

These answers help us assess fit. They do not reserve a start date or amount to a quotation. For major projects, allow at least four weeks from your first enquiry. Smaller or urgent work may be possible sooner; dates are agreed separately.

Make the awkward parts of the room useful

Shelf depths, door swings and access to sockets are agreed alongside the appearance. The joinery is measured for your room, including walls that are not square and period details you want to retain.

Scope and fit at a glance

We supply and fit the agreed measured design. Dimensions, visible materials, fittings and finish are recorded before workshop construction.

Scope, programme and quotation details

This is the wider joinery service for alcove units, fitted bookcases, home-office furniture, hallway storage, window seats and other room-specific work. Bedroom-only schemes sit on the fitted wardrobes and bedrooms page, while television-led joinery sits on the media walls page.

The survey records the room, what the joinery needs to hold, retained details, services and access. The quotation fixes the dimensions, layout, visible materials, finish, hardware and installation scope before workshop construction starts.

It suits work that needs to follow alcoves, uneven walls or an exact use. It is not a catalogue of freestanding furniture or a promise that every early sketch can be built without adjustment after measurement.

What made-to-measure joinery can cover

The useful starting point is the room and the daily task, not a generic cabinet size. Three common briefs are:

Alcoves, bookcases and display

Shelving, cupboards and display joinery can be set around chimney breasts, skirting, cornice and walls that are not square. Shelf spans, door clearances and what will be stored are agreed before manufacture.

Home offices and work areas

A fitted desk can coordinate working height, storage, sockets, lighting and cable access. The design should remain serviceable, with equipment and connections accessible after installation.

Hallway and awkward-space storage

Shallow cupboards, seats and fitted storage can use space around entrances, stairs or irregular walls. Circulation, door swing and retained period details determine what is practical.

The Sweet Homes process

Measured for your room. Made in our workshop.

We talk through what the furniture needs to do and the details you want to keep. We work through the arrangement, materials and finish with you, measure the room and record the agreed work before workshop construction.

  1. Discuss what it needs to do

Tell us what the piece is for, what it needs to hold and the look you have in mind. Reference images and rough dimensions help.

  2. Measure the room

After a phone call to work through your brief, we measure the room. The survey records the geometry, walls that are not square, obstructions, services and the period details to keep.

  3. Plan the details

We work through shelf depths, door swings, access to sockets, materials, hardware and finish, so the piece suits how the room is used.

  4. Agree the work

Your written quote records the arrangement, materials, hardware, finish, site preparation and installation. You approve the work before workshop construction.

  5. Make and fit

Components are made and finished in our workshop. We then confirm the installation date, with access protection agreed for your work.

  6. Check and hand over

We carry out the installation checks and record the handover set out for your work.

Details that shape the finish

Uneven walls, skirting, cornice and door clearances all affect the finished fit. We measure those conditions and agree the details alongside the chosen materials and finish.

Changes, explained and agreed

If an agreed detail needs to change, we explain the proposed adjustment and follow the project’s approval process before changing that part of the work.

Practical arrangements and what the work includes

The initial fit check covers the intended use, rough dimensions, finish and any reference images. A measured survey then records geometry, obstructions, services and the existing details to keep.

The approved design and written quotation define the internal arrangement, materials, hardware, finish, site preparation and installation. Components are prepared in the Sweet Homes workshop before the site date is confirmed.

The project contract identifies the access protection, change approval, installation checks and handover records for that scope.

What moves a joinery quotation

Read the figure alongside the door and drawer count, internal fittings, visible material, finish, hardware and site preparation it covers, so you can compare what each price includes.

Size alone does not set the price. Door and drawer count, internal fittings, visible material, painted or clear finish, hardware, lighting, site preparation and room geometry all affect workshop and installation time.

For bedroom-specific examples, see the fitted wardrobe and bedroom cost bands. Other joinery is quoted from the measured design because a bookcase, office and hallway unit use different construction and hardware.

Made-to-measure joinery questions

We supply and fit every job. We do not offer labour-only work and we do not offer fit-only work, because one firm owning both the materials and the workmanship gives you one clear line of responsibility. The whole sequence, from first call to handover, is set out on how we work.

What does bespoke joinery include?

The service covers made-to-measure fitted work such as alcove units, bookcases, desks, hallway storage and window seats. The written quotation identifies the exact design, materials, finish, hardware and fitting work included.

Is this the same as the fitted wardrobe service?

The workshop and measurement approach is related, but this page covers joinery beyond the bedroom. Wardrobes, dressing areas and full fitted-bedroom schemes have their own fitted wardrobes and bedrooms service.

Can joinery be fitted around period details?

Often. Skirting, cornice, picture rails, shutters and uneven walls are recorded at survey. The design then shows what is retained, covered, altered or scribed around before construction begins.

Can sockets and lighting be included?

They can be included where suitable. The electrical layout, switching, cable access and any ventilation around equipment need to be agreed alongside the joinery rather than added after manufacture.

How long does made-to-measure joinery take?

The programme depends on design approval, materials, finish, workshop capacity and installation complexity. The quotation and pre-start information state the expected sequence for the measured project.

Can joinery be part of a wider renovation?

Yes. It can be coordinated with plastering, decoration, flooring, electrical work and wider room changes under a home renovation scope.

Why do you not offer labour-only work, or fit materials we buy ourselves?

No. We supply and fit every job, whatever its size. We do not offer labour-only work and we do not offer fit-only work. When one firm buys the materials and carries out the work, you have one clear line of responsibility if something goes wrong, rather than an argument between the product and the fitting. If you have already chosen products, send the product codes and we will buy those exact items and include them in the quotation.

How soon can works start?

For major projects, allow at least four weeks from your first enquiry. If something needs attention sooner than that, say so on the call and we will point you to the right emergency trade for the immediate problem while the planned work is scheduled properly. Tell us what you need and when. Send your enquiry by form or email. We will reply and arrange a follow-up call to talk through the project. A site visit is arranged afterwards, where useful. The written quotation sets out the agreed work. The start date is agreed once you have accepted the quotation.

Bespoke joinery reviews

Two published records of made-to-measure joinery: a large bookcase with cupboard shelving, and custom bench seating with storage.

We hired Brunon Rogowski Ltd to build a large bespoke bookcase in our living room, cupboard shelving and repair four outside window sills. From the first enquiry and consultation, to the work being carried out and the finished product we were very happy with Brunon and his team did. We would definitely use them again.

Verified Edinburgh Trusted Trader review

We had some custom bench seating built with storage. The finished seats were excellent, to a really high standard and exactly what we asked for. Robert was great; friendly and professional and finished the job quickly and efficiently, would highly recommend!
